EPISODE 1: BUTTERFLY GARDENING

Butterfly Gardening is easy – especially if you follow the 4 MUST HAVE’s. The video describes the four things needed to certify your property as a wildlife habitat and help the City of Sunrise maintain our designation as a Community Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. The video showcases the butterfly garden at the Sunrise Dan Pearl Library that was established with the Friends of the Library in partnership with the City’s Be A Butterfly Hero program.

EPISODE 2: "BUFFY THE BURROWING OWL"

Betty Gilbert’s “Buffy the Burrowing Owl” is a wonderful children’s book to read and learn about a local South Florida species. Burrowing Owls are a species of concern, and thanks to programs like Project Perch (a South Florida Audubon Society program) cities like Sunrise can work to help protect the owls while maintaining recreation spaces for our community. No owls were harmed during the filming of this this video. This video was filmed in partnership with Project Perch, the City of Sunrise registered agent through Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Always maintain a safe distance from wildlife – for Burrowing Owls you should stay at least 20 feet away so as not to disturb them. Report destruction or harassment of burrowing owls or their nests to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission toll free at 1-888-404-FWCC.

EPISODE 3: WATER TREATMENT

In most of the United States, getting clean, safe water is as easy as turning on a faucet. Take a visual tour with our City of Sunrise Utilities operators to see how water flows from underground Aquifers through the Sawgrass Water Treatment Plant, one of three plants that deliver high quality water to more than 200,000 customers in homes, schools, and businesses throughout Sunrise and neighboring cities. Treating this water requires a lot of energy and infrastructure, and we hope that understanding the process will inspire the community to conserve.
