The City of Sunrise offers a wide variety of youth sports programs in order to encourage the participation of children of all ages and levels of experience. Here's a quick overview of our opportunities:

Youth RECREATION Programs

Our youth recreation athletic programs are designed for children who want to have fun and participate in an activity in a non-competitive environment. Players are assigned through a blind draft system that attempts to create balanced teams. There are mandatory play rules in place for each of these programs. Time commitment includes three practices and/or games a week for a specified period of time, usually no more than 4 months. Games and practices are all held at parks and facilities within Sunrise.  Registrations and seasons generally take place as follows:

Youth TRAVEL Programs

Our youth travel athletic programs provide a more competitive environment. Children must try out, and team members are selected by the coaches for each team.  There is no "must play" rule. The time commitment for a travel program can be up to five days a week, and some sports are played year 'round. Travel outside the Sunrise area may be required for games and tournaments.

Coaching Opportunities!

The start of each new sports season brings with it the need for volunteer coaches. We often have more children who want to play a sport than adult volunteers who are willing to coach them.

If you have never coached before, we will be happy to provide you with instructional materials to help and support you.  As an added benefit, head coaches are eligible for a 50% discount on their child’s registration. Another alternative is to volunteer as an assistant coach.

Head coaches should volunteer at the time of registration; head coaches and assistant coaches will be selected and notified immediately following the registration deadline. All coaches are required to be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check.

If you are interested in serving as a coach, please complete the application for Youth Athletics volunteers and return it to the Leisure Services Department for processing.  Thank you for your involvement!

Game and Practice Cancelations

There are times when inclement weather will require the cancelation of a scheduled game or team practice.  If this is the case, coaches will notify their players of the cancelation. Parents are encouraged to make certain your child's coach has up-to-date contact information. To receive email and text alerts regarding youth athletic programs, opt in at https://simplifiedsms.com/onlineSignup/Sunrisefl.gov/signup.

Spectator Attendance

We encourage the friends and families of players to attend sporting events and cheer on the teams. All spectators are asked to comply with the Spectator's Code of Conduct. Attendance at the events and adherence to the Code will ensure that everyone involved will have a memorable and positive experience.

AS A SPECTATOR AT A YOUTH SPORTING EVENT, I WILL:

 Demonstrate good sportsmanship.
Support coaches and officials.
Remember the children participate to have fun.
