City of Sunrise Comprehensive Plan

In 1985, the Florida Legislature adopted the Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act - also known as Florida's Growth Management Act - requiring each of Florida's 67 counties and 410 municipalities to adopt a Local Government Comprehensive Plan that guides future growth and development.

These comprehensive plans contain chapters or "elements" that address future land use, transportation, housing, infrastructure, conservation, recreation and open space, intergovernmental coordination, capital improvements, and public school facilities.

Municipalities and counties must update their comprehensive plan every seven years following adoption of a Comprehensive Plan Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR). The Sunrise City Commission adopted the most recent Evaluation and Appraisal of the City of Sunrise Comprehensive Plan in April 2006. The City Commission then adopted EAR-Based amendments to the City's Comprehensive Plan on July 14, 2009.
