ARTIST STATEMENT
"My artwork is a blend of traditional art forms, the vibrant energy of hip-hop culture, and the deep roots of Black history. I bring together classical techniques with the boldness of urban graffiti, creating a visual experience that's both timeless and contemporary. When I paint, I see iconic figures from Black history standing alongside the legends of hip-hop, forming a conversation between the past and the present. I incorporate intricate patterns and symbols from African heritage, mixing them with the rhythm and lyrical flow of hip-hop to capture the essence of cultural evolution. Each piece I create tells a story-it's my way of honoring our legacy while pushing the boundaries of what art can be. Through my work, I celebrate the resilience, creativity, and enduring spirit of the Black community, making sure our voices are not just heard, but seen."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
The power of creating whatever the mind can imagine has driven West Palm Beach-based artist David German since his first foray into the arts at only three years old. After receiving a full scholarship to obtain his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, German has honed his distinct style of surrealist art.
Not beholden to any one medium, German often uses acrylic, oil, or graphite in his expansive, mixed media works. Pulling from his interest in music and hip-hop culture, the surrealist style artwork German creates has gained him a range of exhibitions, including live art events. German’s passion for music has led him to explore the connection between music and visual art through his project Concept Rhythm. Applying the principles of design and the lens of art criticism to music, German brings the overlap between music and visual art into focus. Drawing further connections between music and visual art, German incorporates live art events into his creative practice, inviting audiences to experience creation in real-time just as a concert does.
