Sunrise Gardening For Wildlife Workshop

Learn How to Plant with a Purpose!

Use native, Florida-friendly plants to create habitat for local species. Use specific plants to attract birds and pollinators, like butterflies and bees! Butterfly weed, milkweed, and flowering edible herbs, like dill and parsley, will attract butterflies. Flowering shrubs and trees will provide food and cover for various bugs and birds. Gardening offers so many benefits beyond habitat provision, like stress reduction, mood boosting, Vitamin D absorption, outdoor education, carbon sequestration - and the list goes on!

This program is hosted by Sunrise Good and Green as part of the Be A Butterfly Hero program to promote Florida-Friendly Landscaping which emphasizes native plants that often require less water, chemicals and maintenance - and provide essential habitat for our native and migratory wildlife including imperiled pollinators! The City of Sunrise is proud to be a certified Community Wildlife Habitatâ„¢ through the National Wildlife Federation, with over 270 certified habitats in Sunrise!

Attendees will learn how to create a wildlife-friendly habitat to attract and provide for local butterflies and birds, and will take home educational resources, butterfly-attracting plants, and seeds.
