Join us to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Sunrise Athletic Complex (SAC)! This free community event is happening Saturday, July 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at SAC, 11501 NW 44th Street. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m.
SAC was expanded and enhanced thanks to voter support of Sunrise's 2014 general obligation (GO) bond referendum - which continues to fund improvements to parks and recreation facilities in neighborhoods citywide.
As part of the SAC project:
- The park's existing playground, full-size multipurpose fields, meeting hall, and restroom facilities were renovated
- The park's tennis courts were resurfaced
- A new 15,000-square-foot multipurpose building was constructed, complete with an indoor gym and program space
- Five new covered outdoor basketball courts were built, as well as a basketball-style Bankshot course for players of all ages and abilities
- A new concession building with scorers' tower was constructed
- Other enhancements include sports lighting, connecting pathways, an additional batting cage, security features, and additional parking along NW 44th Street.
Overflow parking and shuttles for the SAC Grand Re-Opening will be available at Welleby Park (enter from Hiatus Road), and at the lot at the northeast corner of NW 44th Street and Hiatus Road. Walking and biking are also encouraged!
